Random Ramblings Of A City Girl

A new hair cut is always a good idea.

You guys, where do I even start? I haven’t trimmed my hair in months. MONTHS I tell you, MONTHS! With lockdown, the last thing on my mind was getting my hair trimmed. We all know that in order to have healthy hair, the rule of thumb is to trim your hair every 4 – 6 weeks. If I am being honest, the last time I got a trim was last year December. Even though my hair was a huge ball of split ends and chemical damaged strands, I have to say that I had no problem with hair growth as my hair grows pretty fast in general. At this point I was just bored with my hair and it was becoming daunting spending over an hour doing my hair. My hair was starting to thin out especially at the root area and the ends because I wear my scarf most of the time. With that being said, when I went to visit my best friend the other day, I had no intentions of cutting my hair that particular day but alas, I left his home that day with hair three times shorter than what it was and I have to say that it is growing on me. Whenever I go to my friend’s house, I leave looking and feeling like a new person. I live for those type of friendships. Nonetheless, Today on the blog, I thought that I would give you three reasons why a new haircut is always a good idea. 1. It’s empowering: I read this quote that says “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life – Coco Chanel“. I will never forget this quote and it is such a testament to what I am currently going through and doing. You know… making moves in silence 😉. I cannot even agree with that quote enough. It is liberating in the sense of letting go of old things and setting the tone for new growth in all aspects of your life. Cutting your hair is like taking action and taking action is a feel of accomplishment.

2. Your hair doesn’t define you: Yes, your hair is your crown that you never take off. Some might feel empowered with longer hair but it really is whatever makes you feel most bad a$$. Too often in the media we are being told that long hair is the standard of beauty… true? I think not!3. Hello, healthier hair: Maybe you didn’t have unhealthy and damaged hair like me but nothing screams healthier hair more than a fresh chop that got the ends looking more lushes and fuller.  Regardless of how much length you’re taking off, a chop guarantees better ends and overall appearance of your hair. In order to maintain this look, stick to the 4-6 week method.

Even though I am absolutely “feeling” my new shorter locks, I have to say that I miss the convenience of my longer hair in terms of just being able to throw it up in a bun. Shorter hair requires some styling but luckily it is easier to air dry or even heat style. Also, when my hair is shorter, it becomes greasy so much faster but seeing that it is spring/summer I don’t mind washing it more often. If I am being quite honest, I wasn’t planning on going this short but somehow when Zoor and I are together, magic happens and voila! NEW HAIR! I am currently in the market for a new shampoo, conditioner and hair mask. I need something that won’t irritate my scalp but something that won’t make my hair oily as I have the type of hair that becomes quite greasy even on the second day. Oh, and I want shine, lots of it! Tall order? 😅 I also need some easy hair inspiration for some summer styles!

So who is doing some summer snipping?
