At this point of an extended two week lockdown here in South Africa, enticing my readers with a new fashion trend is probably the last thing on everyone’s mind. Well at least we can lighten the mood a little bit and also nothing gives you a little bit of a “pick me up” like creating a clothing/fashion wishlist, right? for me at least. So, I’ve been following the organza trend since last year and I thought that it would phase out after the summer season but by the looks of it, it is being embraced now more than ever.
Remember when organza was reserved for those huge puffy prom dresses back in the 50’s? Prada’s AW18 encapsulated that feeling of the luxe evening gown back then but toned it down to make it ready to wear fashion for us everyday people. Now seeing that organza is a really sheer fabric, one wouldn’t normally associate it with autumn and winter but it seems that layering is the way to go with this trend. Now one thing that I have noticed about this trend is that it all rely on the exaggerated sleeve. If it’s not the puffy sleeve then its the bishop sleeve or exaggerated cuff. I am living for this voluminous moment in fashion and I have found – the bigger the better! Throwing an outfit together IN MY HEAD, I can picture the Topshop dress as a cute summer outfit for the girls entering summer (somewhere in the world) paired with cute flats and for us SA girls in autumn/winter; the Truworths, Foschini or Forever New blouse with a pair of jeans, boots and an oversized coat. Be still my beating heart! I live for winter fashion.
The organza trend is really one of those trends that doesn’t require alot of styling to the outfit. It is a statement piece on it’s own. I have found many different variations of this trend be it a dress or a blouse. Organza might be the fabric option but this trend touches on so many styles such as wrap blouses, oversized shirts (which is perfect for layering), Victorian inspired, the pussy bow, boho chic, statement pieces, printed fabrics and making it appropriate for both work and evening wear. I have chosen my top three looks that I have found on the interwebs to really convey what I mean by this trend being so versatile. I really am loving this chic trend and I do believe that it is for everyone.
Yay or nay for the organza blouse/dress trend?
