While I am still on this international fashion week high, I was looking at the street style looks and the one thing that stood out to me the most was definitely the approach of minimalism that fashion week goers took. I feel like people are over the stylized looks and are opting for fashion pieces that offer comfort but still gives them that wow factor. A great way to do this is to wear a basic item and then incorporate something like a “loud” print or even OTT accessories.
Which brings me to today’s post.
At the moment, you will see stores and online stores inundated with the slogan t-shirt. Who even still wears and buys t-shirts you ask? Well, everyone! The trend that I am talking about today
if you haven’t gathered from the title of this post is the slogan tee. The slogan tee is one of those clothing items that allows you to make a statement without saying a word. Now the slogan tee dates way back to the 1960’s and then paying homage to the trend in the 90’s. With the trend booming in the 90’s, millennials are having a throwback moment and embracing the humble slogan tshirt after Maria Grazia Chiuri sent her ‘We should all be feminists’ T-shirt down the Dior catwalk in her very first collection for the French fashion house in October 2016.It seems like the slogan tee allows you to have an opinion. Whether it is to be as political as you like, to convey a message of positivity or just to wear a brand name on your chest… that can also double up as a message of motivation (I guess)… there is a slogan tee with your name on it! – in layman’s terms… there is a tshirt for everyone and you’re bound to find one that you like.
The best thing about this trend is that it is not only worn by females but males as well. Heck! even babies. I have rounded up a few of my favourite designs that I found in stores and online and put together a fashion edit that caters to people from all budgets, even for my international readers. With that being said, here are my celeb style inspiration for the slogan tee. Whether you are giving it a ‘laid back’ approach while travelling like Charlize or giving it more of a ‘dressed up’ feel like Victoria, the slogan tee can easily be adapted to your personal style. Another favourite combo that fashion lovers are into is the display of graphics on their tshirts or a mixture of both graphic and slogan like Kourtney is wearing. A slogan tee teamed up with heels or sneakers, seems to be the spring/summer-18 vibe and I can already tell that trend enthusiasts are on board with it.
Do you own a slogan tee? or is a pass from you?
To all my South African readers, I wish you a splendid Heritage weekend.
