TGIF! Today I am coming to you from the comfort of my bed, high on flu meds and trying to muster up the energy to put a half decent post together for you. Now of course I don’t want to sound super whiny but working from bed has its perks and I tend to take full advantage of my current state. One of those advantages happens to be the beauty that is fashion season. If you don’t know what I am talking about then stick around and I will tell you all about it. It is currently fashion week in all of the major capitals, with New York Fashion Week wrapping up today, London Fashion Week starting today and Milan Fashion Week kicking off next week. Of course I wish I was there (who wouldn’t?) but live streaming has to do the trick… FOR NOW.
While I am not experiencing the wonders of sitting in the “frow”, I do get all of the sneak peeks of what’s to come and also snippets of street-style that allows me live vicariously through these trend mavens.
Which brings me to today’s post.
A few weeks back I talked about the Paperbag Pants that is making such frequent appearances in everything from magazines – to blogs – to retailers. This trend isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon and I am here for it! Today I thought that I would do a bit of a different approach to it and feast your eyes on the skirt version of the paperbag trend. South African retailers both online and brick and mortar have ensured that they are fully prepared for the spring/summer season while dishing out this trend in all of its glory. I have rounded up a plethora of different styles and designs so you can choose your favourites. In this particular trend, you will find a wide variety that makes it easier for women of all ages, cultures and ‘sense of styles’ to dabble in this trend. I am particularly drawn to the button down skirt from Forever New and the black sheer skirt from Rage, that is perfect for the upcoming wedding season.
I do however wish that there were a bigger variety of more spring/summer appropriate colours available. Alas, we will have to wait and see if retailers will make adaptations when the warmer weather rolls in. While the paperbag skirt is not for everyone, I do feel like you shouldn’t write it off completely. It is such a figure flattering piece that doesn’t require much faffing and is appropriate for every occasion. The paperbag skirt has been around for years and is only getting its moment in the sun now and I couldn’t be happier that this timeless piece is finally getting fussed over. For my outfit inspiration today, I thought that I would do things a bit differently. When I watch all of these fashion shows, you get a looksee as to what people are wearing and today, these are the outfit styles that stood out to me the most. If you follow my ‘Fashion Friday’ series then you would know that I always use international celebrities to show off a particular trend but I thought that I would use street-style inspiration. Who better to show off a trend than ordinary people that don’t have fashion stylists to choose an outfit for them. Of course these styles may come across as eccentric and avant-garde but you can always adapt it to your personal taste. You know what they say… THERE ARE NO RULES IN FASHION.
That is it from me. Signing off for the weekend. Thank you for reading darlings. Before I go, Yay or Nay for the Paperbag Skirt?
