Over the past six years of me having my little corner on the internet, my readers have always enjoyed my travel posts. Be it internationally, locally or even weekend staycations in my own city at fancy hotels or luxury apartments, I always receive great feedback. A few weeks back I got to “test drive” the new Afristay website where I was so spoilt for choice on a new place to stay in Cape Town. What is Afristay you might ask? Well let me give you quick run-down. Afristay, previously known as Accommodation Direct is an online platform where you get to book accommodation when planning your vacation or a staycation. There are four countries to choose from (South Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Namibia), with over 20 000 listings, across 2 000 African locations – you can even read some reviews on their site. I wish I had known about this little gem when I booked my local vacations. It would’ve made the endless scouting on the web a whole lot easier with having so many accommodation options at my fingertips.
With the site being super user friendly and having pictures on their listings, I honestly couldn’t decide where I wanted to stay this time around. My mom being an avid supporter of my blog, always said that she wanted to stay at Sunstays – Lagoon Beach after reading my post. I checked out Afristay and saw that Sunstays – Lagoon Beach was listed and I ended up selecting it as my accommodation for the Heritage weekend.
Now I’ve had the pleasure of staying over at Sunstays before so I knew I was in for a treat. I arrived at 16.30 where I was greeted by the friendly lobby staff and proceeded to check in. Last time I had the room view of the lagoon and I was hoping to have a different room this time. Luckily this time I was situated on the second floor, overlooking the pool deck, the lagoon and the beach. I have to mention that breakfast on the balcony was quite a treat. The rooms were spacious, modern décor and all the necessary equipment needed to make your stay as convenient as possible. When I say convenient I mean a microwave, a fridge, a washing machine, a kettle, a toaster… the works!
When you check into the luxury apartments at Sunstays, you receive two card keys and your wifi passwords. Free wifi? You know what they say… home is where the wifi hotspot is 😀 . In true Cape Town weather style, we experienced four seasons in one day but lucky for me – I got to shoot the sunset which is my fave part of staying at Sunstays. I will say that the Lagoon Beach area is certainly one of the most unappreciated gems of Cape Town and you have to experience waking up to beautiful sunrises at least once if you’re visiting the Mother City or even having a staycation in the city.
At sunstays there’s a gym that you can make use of or if you prefer a run, you can always end up taking a run down on the beach. One thing that I hate worrying about when staying over at places is by far the safety of my car. At Sunstays I didn’t have to as security is definitely top notch. I love me a good “all-nighter” and studying on the balcony at 2 in the morning and seeing security doing their rounds every now and again really does put one’s mind at ease.
As I have mentioned previously, Sunstays Luxury Apartments are self-catering so you can either opt to cook yourself or even buy food. Whenever I passed through the lobby I was always greeted with the warmest hellos from the staff and I loved that. Wrapping up my stay at Sunstays Lagoon Beach, I checked out at 9 the following morning and I can without a doubt say that I will be back.
A special Thank You to Chandre and Tracey-Lee for booking my stay.
