{Review} My foundation hoo

When it comes to finding my perfect foundation I probably sound like a broken record but I can definitely tell that I am making progress. I’ve been struggling to find the perfect drugstore foundation for 5 years, that actually works for me but I have to say though that it is a constant battle. I spend quite a bit of money on foundation, more so than any other makeup product. While I am always on YT searching for reviews I am constantly learning new tricks which is making me more confident in my makeup game and opening my mind into exploring with makeup products more.city-girl-vibe-foundation-on-rotationI am a firm believer in my Garnier BB Cream but I felt that it was time to venture out in the foundation game again and try my hand at finding the perfect foundation… AGAIN. Without overplaying my hand, I headed off to Clicks and asked the assistant to match me up to something very similar in consistency to my BB cream and she suggested that I try a mousse foundation. I then tried the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse.

A little while back I mentioned that I bought a few Maybelline goodies at Clicks when they had the promo where you received a free clutch bag when you spend R225 and more. I really loved the clutch and decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to try a new foundation. City Girl Vibe Maybelline Clicks Specialcity-girl-vibe-dream-matte-mousse-in-medium-beigeI am currently using the shade Medium Beige and for the first time ever I am going to finish a foundation. It’s still not what I am looking for but I have been using it for months and I know exactly how to make it work for me. This foundation offers medium to full coverage depending on the type of makeup look I am going for. Moisturising and a good primer is key when using this foundation or else it’ll apply streaky. Of course I have an overly dramatic skin which acts up for literally anything so I was so pleased that this foundation worked on me. In winter this foundation was a tad too dark for me so I used my Maybelline Clear Smooth All In One – Shine Free Cake Powder in shade 01 Light to balance it out and match my skin tone perfectly. I have very little knowledge about skin undertones and when i wear this foundation I appear somewhat pinkish so I have to layer on my powder but to the point where I don’t become cakey.city-girl-vibe-maybelline-airfoam-foundation-in-265-sun-beigeThen another foundation that caught my eye is also from Maybelline and it’s the Dream Nude Airfoam. This foundation is like heaven on the skin and you can barely feel that you’re wearing anything. It offers light coverage, lighter than my Garnier BB Cream and blends out really well. I am a medium to full coverage girl so I would have appreciated more coverage from this foundation but I feel that it is however perfect for those “no makeup – makeup” days. A little goes a long way with this foundation but I like that this foundation won’t ever look cakey on your face regardless of the season. I also feel that this foundation is great for those just dabbing their toes in the foundation world instead of going straight for the “big guns” that’s not as cost effective.city-girl-vibe-maybelline-nude-airfoam-foundationWhat I liked about the Maybelline Nude Airfoam foundation is the pump bottle so you know you’re getting a fuss free application. Another goody is that it has SPF 15 in it and it’s such a great combo with my Clear Smooth All In One powder which has SPF 25 in it.

Lastly another foundation that I’ve been using is one from Edgars, the Design Cosmetics brand. I’ve reviewed it on the blog before but to give you a brief low down on it, I have a love hate relationship with it. On some days it works perfectly and on other days it just won’t cooperate with my skin and I end up using it as a concealer. This might be due to my skin changing all the time but I also do require some sort of oil to blend it out or it just settles in those fine lines and I don’t achieve even blending and coverage. City Girl Vibe Edgars Design Foundation SwatchThose are my current 3 foundations in rotation. I’ve used MAC NC35 before which is the perfect foundation for my skin but let’s face it, MAC is becoming more expensive every few months. My current foundation is close to finish, as well as my BB Cream so I am in need of a new foundation. Currently at the top of my  MUST TRY list is Revlon’s Colorstay. I’ve only ever read good reviews on it and it’s my most recommended foundation by readers and friends.  Any advice or tips on finding the perfect foundation?

  1. Foundation is also one of my “constantly searching for something better” products. I have also wondered about the mouse, so I enjoyed this review a lot 🙂 I have tried the Dream Nude Airfoam BUT because of the coolness of the foundation that resembles shaving foam, I couldn’t stop showing all my friends how it works and before the end of the month it was gone 😀 So far I have been sticking with Revlon’s Colorstay and I found that it gives great coverage and the tint is a perfect match for my skin colour.
