I haven’t done a Fashion Friday post since April and I’ve been so caught up on beauty trends that I totally neglected the fashion part. One of the most worn accessory trends for 2016 is without a doubt the choker. I’ve seen so many different variations of this trend and almost everyone I know owns one.
Today on the blog I thought I’d do a DIY to show you just how easy it is to make a custom choker from bits and bobs that you probably already have laying around in your home. Previously readers have asked me to add more sewing tips/ my own designs and I thought why not! Please note that this DIY can totally be done with a simple needle and thread but because I study Clothing & Textiles, the sewing labs at campus are always available to us so I decided to do a quick tutorial. Also, an overlocker is not needed as I just overlocked the edges to give it more of a neat finishing.
What you’ll need:
- Fasteners (clasps, press studs, velcro…)
- Tape Measure
- Matching Thread
- Fabric Marker
- Accessory (optional)
The fabric I chose was a suede type fabric because for the particular type choker that I was going for, suede seems to be the popular option. I had black pleather as well but I thought that pleather would totally make you sweat when summer rolls in. I decided to add an accessory to the choker to add a little bit of an edge to it… and when I say accessory I actually mean an ear-ring that I had after I lost the other one. This DIY took me under 5 minutes so I might be doing such easy peasy type sewing goodies on the blog from time to time.
Here goes. And that’s it! Now if you are not in the mood to do a DIY, no sweat! I have you covered. Usually with Fashion Friday posts, I have to do a lot of sourcing to find pricing and pictures for products but with this trend I really just had to open a few online stores and voila! I found quite a variety of chokers in different fabrics and textures so you’re bound to find one that you like. I always end off my Fashion Friday posts with some celeb styling to give you inspiration on how to rock this trend. As you can tell the Kardashian/Jenner Klan loves the choker trend.
Ps excuse my photo heavy post. What’s your thoughts on the choker trend? love it or leave it?
