Perfect Nails in 60 seconds with Rimmel

Rimmel-Logo-1024x283I’ve been MIA off CGV all week due to hectic university workload and this weekend I just felt like being home and making my nails look pretty. My darling Desle sent me so many awesome goodies for my birthday and one of them are my new fave nailpolish from Rimmel.

Getting the London Look has never been easier. I’ve been spotting Rimmel’s 60 second polish everywhere and wanted to see if it really dries in 60 seconds because waiting for polish to dry is one of the main reasons why I don’t do my nails with nailpolish anymore. She sent me a stunning shade in “230 Portobello Pink” and I’m smitten!

I didn’t feel like doing the whole nailart thing because I had to hit the books 10mins later so this was the perfect time to see if this polish really did what it says it does AND IT 100%, HONESTLY, ABSOLUTELY, DEFINITELY does it. Its been 3 days and my nails still looks beauty parlor perfect. Besides the quick drying, long lasting and amazing formulation, I quite liked the applicator. Its bigger than your standard polish brush. It took me 2 strokes and 1 coat to achieve this look and a picture doesn’t do this colour justice. Its much pinker than what it appears on the picture.

Rimmel 60 second nail polish comes in 16 stunning shades and I wish I had them all. This is my new fave nail polish. I have no complaints about this polish. Highly recommended darlings! You can also purchase this from Rubybox as well as your usual drugstores like Clicks and Dischem.Picture-13

{Review} Yardley : STAYFAST

imagesA while back I got a voucher to purchase the Yardley Stayfast Range and I was pretty excited to try it out because I still haven’t found the “perfect” foundation for my skin type. The 3 products that I purchased was the Foundation, Concealer and Pressed Powder. All three cost about R300 all together. I then headed down to the Yardley counter at Foschini in Canal Walk and got it matched to my complexion. yardley_stayfast_art*Tip* if you do get yours matched, rather get each product matched individually and don’t choose each product according to one shade.

Yardley Stayfast – Skin Perfecting Concealer {Tan 04}
First up is the Concealer. I love this product and its most definitely my fave product out of the bunch. Its perfect for hiding those little imperfections and dark circles around your eyes. It also protects your skin against the UV rays. The roll-up function is one the most amazing features of this concealer as you don’t have to sharpen it like most concealers. I’d definitely purchase this again. 2013-04-04 17.05.14
Yardley Stayfast Foundation (Caramel Fudge 08)
This was one of the main reasons why I went to the Yardley Counter to get my foundation matched. I’ve got a skin tone that requires the perfect shade of foundation because I’m not pale and I’m not tan either. The MUA settled on Caramel Fudge and it was fine on some areas of my face. When blended into the skin, it comes across as orange and on warmer days this foundation would be your worse nightmare. I hated that it rubbed off so easily and during the course of the day your face looks greasy/oily. It also doesn’t offer much coverage and when you apply more foundation to the area that requires a little more coverage, it becomes cakey. The only thing that I loved about this foundation is that it has SPF 20 in it but that’s not enough for me to purchase this product again. 2013-04-04 17.09.31
Yardley Stayfast Pressed Powder in {Caramel Fudge 07}.
I had no problem with this product, its actually one of my makeup bag staples at the moment. Its similar to my Clarins shine stopper powder. I use this over my Garnier BB cream. Its also a great foundation for the rest of your makeup. It helps control oil without drying your face or letting it look ashy.2013-04-04 17.01.19All in all, I’m definitely going to repurchase the Concealer and Pressed Powder. I’ve read mix reviews on the foundation so I guess it varies from skin type and tone. The prices of this range is quite affordable compared to other brands. You can find this range at Edgars, Foschini, Dischem and Clicks stores.

Make-Up Brushes + Bristles

I’ve mentioned it in a blogpost before, that I’ve got this HUGE-UNHEALTHY-ABNORMAL obsession with makeup brushes and let me add… Its far from over! I’m in the process of purchasing some more makeup brushes to add to my collection. I don’t have a big collection but mostly the essential brushes. I came across a new brand of affordable makeup brushes at Edgars called Beautique and the quality looks amazing.

I’m an avid Lauren Conrad fan and I love reading her blog. I’ve been following her career since I started watching “The Hills” and always admired her beauty… GIRL CRUSH! I stumbled upon her makeup brush guide and that gave me an idea of the brushes that I still needed to add to my collection.

image

I also picked up on some handy tricks from LC that I never knew : One distinction to note is the difference between synthetic and natural bristles. •Opt for natural bristle brushes when applying anything powdered. •Liquids will soak into natural bristles and cause them to clog or degrade. So reach for synthetic bristles when applying foundation or any cream formulas.

image

My makeup brush collection consists out of a set I bought at Legit, A four piece set from Zando, A brush I got in the Rooirose magazine and two Essence brushes. I love Essence brushes BTW and I can’t wait to add the rest of them to my collection.

Tip : If you don’t have special makeup brush shampoo or whatever professional product that one uses to wash makeup brushes, opt for baby shampoo. Its more gentle on bristles and it will also result in clean/soft/bacteria free brushes!

{Review}Revlon : Illusion

image

Revlon has been appearing a lot on my blog lately and of course it just shows that I’m hooked! Quality meets affordability. I recently popped in at Edgars on a mission to find a new perfumed body lotion for those days where I want to smell extra pretty but still have my skin well moisturised.

I found exactly that when I stumbled upon Revlon’s Illusion Perfumed Body Lotion. This body lotion has natural extracts in it and trying to put this amazing scent into words wouldn’t do it justice at all! I picked up the 250ml bottle and then started sniffing it and prepared myself to pay nothing less than R100 and when I flipped the bottle  to see the price, I was totally shocked to see it was only R32.95. That led me into buying some more Revlon goodies.

image

The Revlon Illusion Body Perfumed Lotion is extremely nourishing, absorbs into your skin super fast and leaves your skin silky smooth. I found the scent to last the entire day which is something you don’t find often in a body lotion. As stated on the bottle, it would work amazingly with the Revlon Illusion Fragrance or Body Spray and I can’t wait till month end to get that!

image

I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find this body lotion at all your major stores like Foschini, Dischem and Clicks. If you’re on the lookout for a new body lotion… Give this a try, you’re going to love it. Don’t forget to read my Previous Revlon post over here and follow Revlon on Twitter and Facebook.

{Review} Revlon Colorburst Fuchsia Lippie

revlon-logo
I’ve always been a Revlon fan from head to toe and I love trying something new everytime. A new fave colour of mine is definitely fuchsia and I first tried it out when I used Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balmstain in Sweetheart.

Sometime last year I picked up a new Revlon lippie in “030 Fuchsia” at an Edgars sale for only R20! Total bargain if you ask me. I’ve been using this religiously ever since and its a nice break from my usual red lips.

Firstly I love the packaging. Nothing too over the top but still looks very “fancy”. This lippie is extremely creamy and moisturising, it works well with or without a coat of lipgloss if you prefer a more of a shiny finish. It builds up nicely if you want more of an intense colour.

The staying/lasting power of this lipstick isn’t that long but then again its not a lipstain. This would definitely compliment all skin colours. I wish I could’ve found more of these as its definitely one of my most loved lipsticks at the moment.

I’ve got one hefty Revlon Lust List at the moment and these are all the darlings I’m saving for!revlonrev

{Review} Ponds Flawless Radiance – Even Tone Facial Foam

pondsToday I’m back with a beauty review and this is definitely one of those products that I brought along with me into the new year. I’m definitely a lover of Ponds products since forever and I’m so chuffed that their products are kind on my sensitive/problematic skin. Some time last year I started using their Flawless Radiance range and its seriously one of the best products I’ve ever used.

This “Even Tone Facial Foam” is perfect for removing dead and dry skin, washing away dirt + impurities + oil. It contains soft exfoliating beads and its not as rough on your face like normal facial exfoliators. I’ve been using this since last year … Why? Because a small little squeeze in the palm of your hand is enough to cover your entire face! A little goes a long way. The best part is, its suitable for all skin types and colours. pondsThis also works as a great foundation for all your makeup. Usually with skincare products a brand tend’s to mention only the “good” but Ponds mentions that Flawless Radiance Even Tone Facial Foam might make your skin sensitive to the sun so you have to use sunscreen after. I love the smell of the facial foam, not overpowering and leaves your face feeling fresh and way more radiant. I can’t wait to add more of the Flawless Radiance to my skincare routine.

P.S Ponds is coming to a campus near you. I can’t wait to visit them at CPUT Bellville Campus. Check for dates below!535531_540509849302488_1180620243_nDon’t forget to visit Ponds :

Juicy Fruit!

peachie
Its been a while since I last did a product review on CGV and I’ve tried quite a few lovely goodies in the mean while but I thought I’d start off with something that I’m loving the most at the moment.

The Peach Blush Whisked Body Butter was one of the gifts I got from Diva Desle for my birthday and I’ve been loving it ever since I opened my box. I could smell it even when the box was still close. Its an extremely long lasting fragrance that stays on your skin for hours. Its incredibly moisturising.

Firstly I fell in love with the packaging. Its so colourful, fun and attractive. I’d definitely pick it if I spotted it in Woolworths. If you ever wondered what summer smells like… THIS IS IT! The body butter is very fruity and I find it to work best after a bath or shower. The texture of the body butter is very thick and creamy so it spreads over your body thoroughly, something that I love in a good quality body butter.
Untitledd
The Peach Blush Whisked Body Butter is packed with peach extract and shea butter. Perfect for soothing those super dry areas and giving your skin a lovely natural glow! If you’re scouting a new body butter, definitely give this one a try. I don’t know the price of this product but its exclusive to Woolworths.

P.s I was also very impressed with the “beauty Journey” of this product.

{Review} Garnier BB Cream – Miracle Skin Perfector

Garnier-logo
Another not so new product on the market that’s taken the beauty, blogging and youtube world by storm is definitely BB Creams!

For those who don’t know what BB creams are, its a Blemish Balm that acts as a foundation, primer, tinted moisturiser , concealer and the best part is… It has SPF 15 in it. At the moment Garnier’s BB creams are the most affordable on the market.

This is one of the products that I got in my Garnier Pure Active range. I’ve been using this religiously since I got it. I’ve never used foundation before mainly because it made my face look dirty. This might be due to the brand I was using or that it didn’t match my complexion. So I thought that I’d give BB cream a go.
IMG_20130117_174020
I firstly prep my face with a moisturiser then apply my BB Cream with my fingertips because I prefer blending it with my fingers as it works better than a brush. I love this product on days when I’m in a hurry and don’t have time for an entire “makeup’ed” face.

Garnier’s BB cream only comes in 3 shades namely Light, Medium and Dark. The light was too light for my skin tone and the medium was too dark so using my second brain I decided to mix the two and came up with the perfect shade!
IMG_20130117_174353
I do however have a few negatives about it :

✗ Its a tad bit too oily so I have to use my Clarins Shine Stopper Powder over it to give me more of a natural look.

✗ It doesn’t offer much coverage so I’m still on the hunt for the perfect product to solve that.

✗ If you’ve got super sensitive skin then this will definitely cause an irritation on your face.

• All in all, I will definitely purchase this product again as I’ve come to learn how to use it and work best for me. I’ve read mixed reviews about Garnier’s BB cream but I think that it varies from skin type. I however do feel that I’d be able to use it and I can’t really compare it to any other brand.

{Review} Love Forever

Since starting my blog a little over a year ago, I’ve discovered many products and brands. I feel that 2013 will be no different. We’re only 8 days into January and I already discovered a new brand. If you love shopping for beauty products at Clicks then you must’ve noticed that they currently having a really great sale on many of their beauty brands. I know all my fav beauty bloggers have been taking advantage of it and now I know why!

I’m not quite sure if these products were on sale but judging by the price that I paid… It just had to be. I picked both these up for R59.98. The body butter was. R34.99 and the hand cream R24.99.
IMG_20130108_033438
Firstly I was drawn to the packaging. How cutesy are these right?! There’s more products to the “Love Forever” range but I went with these two first just so I could test the waters before spending on something that wouldn’t work.

I can never leave my home without a handcream in my handbag. I’m very fussy when it comes to hand creams. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect one for a really long time and I thought its by time that I switched from my current one as it made my hands feel sticky. Love Forever is like quality meets bargain meets the perfect hand lotion in a tube! I’m not exaggerating when I say that its the best hand lotion that I’ve ever used. Its extremely moisturising and absorbs into my hands effortlessly. If you’ve ever tried watermelon Chappie bubble gum, this is what this smells like. Just a more subtle, toned down version with a hint of rose.
tubes
The other product that I tried was the Love Forever Body Butter. If you’re looking for the perfect body butter that leaves your skin smooth, soft, pampered and well moisturised… THIS IS IT. It works wonders after bathing and showering. Its jam packed with shea and cocoa butter. It literally glides onto your skin and absorbs super fast. I love that about a body butter, other than it just leaving your skin feeling greasy.
bigpot
Know what this brand reminds me of? A grown up version of Tinkerbell lotion. I always have something negative to add to and make my reviews as honest as possible but I would absolutely recommend these two products to anybody that needs a quality handcream and body butter. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the body butter’s lid was like a kind of a mirror and if it scratches, it looks really ugly .

So if you spot this at any Clicks store, be sure to check it out. Its exclusive to Clicks and let me add… Its made right here in South Africa! I always love using locally manufactured brands and this just happens to be one if those.

Garnier Pure Active Range

Garnier-logo
The lovely people over at Garnier sent me some lovely goodies and I regard it as a christmas prezzie seeing that I don’t celebrate christmas. Since we’re heading well into those crazy hot days in Cape Town, I’m now into a new facial/beauty routine. In my parcel I received their Pure Active Range, a spanking new red ipod and some BB cream but Ill do a separate review for that to prevent this from being a ridiculously long post.
IMAG0522
I’m doing this post in the order that I use the products and the first product is :

Garnier – Pure Active : Exfo Brusher Wash. This product is perfect for people that has blackheads and also for preventing blackheads. The soft little brush really works the product in nicely . A little goes a long way and it foams up really well so you don’t end up using a lot. Tip : do not get this in your eyes or even close to your eyes because it burns like hell. It has strong peppermint smell/feeling to it so be careful when using it. Other than that, I love this product! This removes dead skin cells and visibly reduces shine.
fjwneknc
Garnier – Pure : Daily deep clean foaming gel. This is perfect for tightening pores and shine control. Your “T zone” area is always the oiliest area and this product is perfect to cleanse that area. Its also very “foamy” so a tad bit is enough to cover your entire face. You can feel this product working from the first use and a bonus is that its tested on blemished prone skin and has proven effectiveness.
IMAG0525
Garnier – Pure Active : Spot purifying toner. This product is aimed at fighting spots and fading marks. I found this toner to be a tad too harsh for my skin so I have to dilute it with water. After diluting it with some water, I find it to work perfectly with the rest of the range. I gently pat this onto my skin with some cotton pads after using the daily deep clean foaming gel and rinsing it off.
IMAG0526
Garnier – Pure Active : 24hr moisturiser . This is by far my fav product out of the bunch. It claims to last for 24 hours but I find it to last just a couple of hours and that’s enough for me. The pump bottle is amazing. This is a lovely finish to the rest of the pure active range. Any makeup or even the BB cream works wonders when used after this moisturiser.
IMAG0527
Over all I’m really loving this range and I find that you get the best results when using it together. I’d definitely use this range again. The travel bag and ipod will definitely come handy when I leave for my vacation in April (far I know) but time flies! Thank Your Garnier for the amazing products, BB cream review coming soon.

With that being said, I’d like to wish all City Girl Vibe readers a joyous Christmas filled with love, laughter, blessings in abundance, beautiful gifts, cheerful memories and loads of yummy food. Be safe lovies!
